When Life Gives You Lemons

May 17, 2016 by JD Leave a Comment

Psalm 51:10 KJV - Christian Devotion
When life gives you lemons, detoxify.

I recently posted a quote with the same macro shot of a lemon that says, “When life gives you lemons, make lemon water.” Just thought of applying that into my spiritual life today, hence the new quote,

When life gives you lemons, detoxify.

King David wrote Psalm 51 after knowingly committing a terrible sin before God. I’m not writing this post to judge you, implying that you’ve probably committed a terrible sin yourself. Rather, I wanted to share a verse from the same chapter,

Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

Psalm 51:10 KJV

When life’s lemons come at me, there are many times when I fail and either start batting at those lemons or ignore them until they rot. Sin creeps in. Managing or dodging the lemons myself simply means that I’m relying on my own strength. I find that it’s a lot easier to fall into sin when I’m tired and weary.

Sometimes, we mistakenly fall into the trap that we’re doing just fine and that there’s nothing wrong with our heart. It isn’t until God sheds His light upon it that we realize that we desperately need Him to purify it. He is waiting for us to ask Him to clean our hearts so that He can use us for His glory.

Here’s the continuation of the Scripture passage:

Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.

Psalm 51:11-13 KJV

Will you join me in saying this prayer from the book of Psalms?

Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Psalm 139:23-24 KJV

When life gives us lemons, let’s detoxify with prayer and God’s Word. Let’s not fall into the trap of relying on our own strength. Then, let’s tap into God’s power and ask Him how He would like to use us today.

Take action: There are many people hurting, suffering, and silently in need of help. Ask God to lay a specific person’s name in your heart and how you can help him or her this week. My friend, if you’re that person who needs help and would like to get to know the goodness, kindness, and power of God, He invites you to be a part of His family today. This page tells you how you can get started.
