There are so many things I hope to accomplish this week: from fitness and weight loss goals to blogging goals to getting our toddler to read and even zeroing in on our older kids’ education goals. Not to mention the daily goals that involve maintaining the house. Sometimes, goals turn into aspirations. Unmet aspirations. Especially when your baby gets sick. And you haven’t gotten any sleep… for days. God has been talking to me during these sleepless nights. He is leading me to “provide refreshments” to one of our missionary friends who will be back on US soil real soon.
I have deadlines. Deadlines I might just miss because the baby has been sick. I know that God will make a way for me to meet this deadline. I can’t wait to share the outcome on Friday. Instead of worrying, God is teaching me to refocus on serving Him and others, first. He will take care of my Tuesday deadline. He will make my boy better. Healing will come real soon.
Where God guides, He provides.
He is guiding me to do something thoughtful for our missionary friends. He is inspiring me to provide a refreshing gift. I haven’t solidified the idea in my sleepy mind just yet–I know God will lead me. I have a few more days to prepare.
Do you have a lot of competing priorities looming over your head? What has God been leading you to do, instead?
Perhaps you’ve read about Onesiphorus in the Bible. He didn’t just seek out the Apostle Paul out of his convenience. He searched for him diligently so he can deliver much needed help or refreshment. Much needed encouragement. Much needed support.
The Lord give mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus; for he oft refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain: But, when he was in Rome, he sought me out very diligently, and found me. The Lord grant unto him that he may find mercy of the Lord in that day: and in how many things he ministered unto me at Ephesus, thou knowest very well.
2 Timothy 1:16-18 KJV
Maybe God has opened the door of opportunity for you, too–the opportunity to “minister” unto one of His workers.
As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.
Galatians 6:10 KJV
If He has indeed moved your heart to help, chances are, He may have already supplied the means to do so. Or, He is counting on us to have faith that He will provide at the right time so that we can carry out His leading to serve Him and others.
Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it.
Proverbs 3:27 KJV
Who could be encouraged with a refreshing gift from you today?
Take action: Instead of simply waiting for the opportunity to come, let’s ask God for the opportunity to serve Him by providing “a refreshing gift” to His workers this week. If your life has been touched by one of God’s missionaries, preachers, pastors, or workers, and would like to start a personal relationship with God as your Heavenly Father, this page tells you how you can find Help today.
