Two Spring seasons ago, our family had visited the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens to look for some cherry blossoms (yes, cherry blossoms in South Florida!). As we were walking along one of their many beautiful gardens, the these little turtles caught the side of my eye. Their stillness was impressive; their demeanor completed the peaceful ambience. While there were other turtles in the same area, these two appeared to be the most in tune with each other and their surroundings. They were in unity!
The unity of these two turtles wasn’t only pleasant for both of them. It was also pleasant to their surroundings as well as to those observing. They remind me of one of my favorite Bible verses as a child,
Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!
Psalm 133:1 KJV
God provides many lessons in life–for me, a good number of these lessons have come from my camera lens. Photos of nature, objects, animals, and people… we often miss the lesson when we’re going too fast in life. It’s only by God’s grace that I’ve been able to capture a smidgen of these teaching moments through my [camera] lens.
Today’s photo reminded me that I’m also being observed by others, most especially by our kids. What kind of images am I registering on their lens?
It is important for me to maintain and promote unity not only with my husband but also with God. As busy as life gets, I must make time to be still and have some quiet time with God. All the more I need to spend time with God and seek Him first.
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Matthew 6:33 KJV
Let’s take some time to evaluate how our demeanor has been contributing to our surroundings lately. Are we creating a pleasant ambience?
Take action: If you’ve long been searching for peace and unity in your situation, it’s not too late to seek God and ask for His peace. Ask Him to show you the beauty in your surroundings, no matter how chaotic. Ask Him to use your life to contribute to that beauty, every single day. Ask Him to show you the beauty of His love, His power, so that He can fill your heart with His beauty. If you haven’t yet received Him into your life, your heart, this page shows you how.
