I purposely chose a photo with a bokeh effect because my eyes have been “beautifully blurry” lately. While I may be faced with needing surgery or an MRI soon, my blurring vision only helps to remind me that I must keep my eyes, my focus, on Jesus… that I must seek Him first, and that–as a Christian–I must set my affection on things above.
Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
Colossians 3:2 KJV
Colossians 3 is a great read, a great reminder of our new life as a Christian.
Setting my affection on “things on the earth” often causes me to worry–like what I did yesterday, after seeing the doctor about my terrible sinus infection that’s gone really bad. I frantically ended up doing some research on the internet on my own, seeking information published by other MD researchers… you know the drill.
While it’s good to be armed with information and be prepared, we can only be as prepared as God intends for us to be. We cannot let our own research, our own desires, overshadow God. I must remember that He is my Physician, my Divine Healer, my Provider, my Everything–and that I must turn to Him when I’m feeling burdened, confused, afraid…
He is in control.
As I shifted my focus back on Him and away from myself, suddenly, the blurriness of my vision became a beautiful blur–a blur that’s completely focused on Him. A blur with purpose. A blur with joy. A blur with promise, knowing that He “will never leave me nor forsake me”. He’s got me in His hands… so I can boldly say, “The LORD is my Helper” (Hebrews 13:5-6).
My friend, if you’re feeling even the tiniest bit of worry starting to creep in, reset and refocus… and remember to “set your affection on things above”.
Let’s cast all our cares upon Him…
Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
1 Peter 5:7 KJV
Let’s delight ourselves also in the Lord…
Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
Psalm 37:4 KJV
Let’s seek Him first…
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Matthew 6:33 KJV
Let us rejoice evermore, pray without ceasing, and give thanks in everything…
Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 KJV
… because God is good!
For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.
Psalm 100:5 KJV
