Lessons From An Iguana

May 25, 2016 by JD Leave a Comment

Mark 14:38 KJV - Christian Devotion
An iguana at the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens in South Florida

Did you know that iguanas have a very keen sense of sight? As as matter of fact, they can detect movement from incredibly long distances. It is said that they can sense predators long before the predators are even aware of the iguana’s presence. They are extremely observant and sure know how to put this skill into good use.

Can you imagine seeing an iguana that’s become complacent because it knows it has incredible eyesight? Such arrogance would very likely lead to its demise.

What a great reminder for us not to grow complacent! We must recognize that we could fall prey to temptation at any given moment.

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

1 Peter 5:8 KJV

The Enemy is very observant and vigilant, which means we need to be even more vigilant through prayer. We must be armed and ready with the Word of God in our hearts so we can discern truth from deception. We can never have too many verses in our hearts. The ones we had learned in Sunday School as children aren’t enough. We’re always going through obstacles in this life, so it’s important to keep up with the training material that God provides through Scripture and to power up and refuel through prayer.

Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.

Mark 14:38a KJV

How is your spiritual eyesight? Perhaps, it’s time for an eye checkup by consulting God’s Word. There’s no need to set an appointment with God.

O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

Psalm 34:8 KJV

Take action: Do you sense as if God has been trying to show you something lately? Whether He’s guiding you or cautioning you, remember to constantly seek Him in prayer and through His Word for wisdom and discernment. If you would like to see the goodness of the Lord and haven’t yet accepted Him into your life, this page shows you how.
