While riding out Hurricane Matthew in Central Florida, we were able to take some extra time (by default?) to organize the guest room! We have friends and family visiting in the coming months, and if you’re like us, you may be a little closet-space challenged. The good news is, we were able to find some inspiration for easy guest room storage solutions during one of our recent Big Lots shopping trips last weekend, and we’re here to share what we found!
Isn’t it great when you can accomplish your guest room organization mission in just one shopping trip? I wasn’t exactly sure what I was looking for in terms of products; for the most part, I was in search of solutions! When I walked into Big Lots, I was pleased to find a variety of items–from home decor to food to cute seasonal items–to help me better prepare for the busy months ahead. Click on the picture below to find a store near you!
Cute Storage Baskets
The chicken wire linen baskets (photographed above) are perfect for holding the faux fur blanket and bath towels. We’ve always found it helpful and convenient to have the cozy blankets, extra linens, and bath towels already laid out for our guests. It takes away the guesswork for them (our linen closet isn’t the easiest to find).
Shoe Rack and Welcome Basket
We also picked up a wooden shoe rack to hold some extra goodies, like plush slippers, magazines, and a welcome basket. There’s just something about a welcome basket that reminds me of a nice hotel or resort. Psst— we filled the basket with some toiletries and handmade soap from Hawai’i!
Storage Bins (No Assembly Required)
The “weave” design on these plastic storage bins caught my eye! I was debating between getting cubical organizers or something already “pre-assembled” (more like, no assembly required). After evaluating things further, I decided that I needed a quick and easy storage solution–so I chose these!
Of course, if you have the time to assemble a few things before company arrives, Big Lots has many other options (from small scale items to large scale items), including cubical organizers and organization items like these…
Over-The-Door Organization Items
Since we have very limited closet space in our guest room, we decided to pick up one of these over-the-door-closet rods as well as these hangers for holding scarves, belts, etc. Aren’t they cute?
Anyway, this is a great place to hang bulky coats and jackets.
Hospitality Tray
The hospitality tray is simple enough yet big enough to add that WOW! factor! I picked up this bamboo tray and coffee mug during the same shopping trip. Don’t forget to add some homemade cookies! If you’re pressed for time, Big Lots has a good selection of cookies / sweet treats to choose from!
About ’em cookies…
These “magic cookies” are our kids’ favorite. We’ll be sharing the recipe with you real soon!
More Cute Finds
How could this owl candle holder not come home with me?! Add to that a deliciously-smelling candle with our favorite Fall fragrance, and our guest room is immediately transformed into a warm and welcoming escape!
Last but certainly not the least, I found this decorative “welcome” sign in the home decor section. It came home with me, too.
It’s all in the details…
