Are you excited about The Big Game that’s coming next month? If you’ve got a bunch of football fans in the family like we do, you’ve probably been sporting some team spirit with all kinds of football fan gear! Our son was wearing his favorite college navy, action green, and wolf gray colors, this past weekend, while our cousin just ordered a smart phone case that’s screaming orange and navy! If you’re ready to throw an epic party, we’ve got some easy game day party and food ideas for ya to check out!
Game Day Food
Game day grub doesn’t have to be complicated. Simple, tasty, and budget-friendly–that’s what we shoot for in our household when it comes to game day party food! For our most recent party, we had Red Baron Classic Crust Special Deluxe Pizza, Edwards Triple Coconut Creme Pie, Hawaiian garlic cheese balls, sloppy joe sliders (recipe coming soon), donut holes, and chips. We’ll share the recipe for the Hawaiian garlic cheese balls in a sec.
Game Day Pizza
Let’s talk about our game day pizza! We chose the Red Baron Classic Crust. The oven did most of the work to give us that “crust perfection in every bite”! This saved us time in the kitchen without sacrificing great taste, and we were able to quickly put our party table together while waiting for the pizza in the oven. If you’re looking for an easy, convenient way to host a football party, this pizza is the way to go! Check out this photo of crispy, airy, and flaky layers of goodness!
Yep, what the box said…
Game Day Sweets
Besides the donut holes, we really enjoyed snacking on these Edwards Triple Coconut Creme Pie bites (we cut ’em up into small squares, for easy snacking). This was an awesome and delicious addition to our game day party table! Ya can’t go wrong with this one. Mmmm…..
Go on, take one 😉
Game Day Grindz
We’re Hawaii transplants living in Florida and we couldn’t help but pair these Hawaiian garlic cheese balls with our pizza. It’s like a twist on cheese balls and garlic knots using Hawaiian sweet bread. We made some parts crispy and flaky and some parts chewy and oozing with cheese and garlic butter. To each their own 😉
Recipe: Hawaiian Garlic Cheese Balls
There’s a popular casual restaurant in Hawaii that serves super “ono” (delicious) cheese balls and this is what had inspired our recipe!
Servings: Approx. 16-18 pieces
Active Time: 5 – 10 minutes
Inactive Time: 20 minutes
Total Time: 25 – 30 minutes
Ingredients:
- 2 packages Hawaiian Sweet Bread
- 1 stick butter (8 tbs), melted
- 3 tbs minced garlic
- 2 slices sharp cheddar cheese*
- 2 slices pepper jack cheese*
- 2 slices sharp Asiago cheese*
- 2 cups feta cheese crumbles
*We picked up our cheese slices from the deli section.
Making these flavorful Hawaiian garlic cheese balls involves only 3 simple steps.
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees, then…
- Arrange Hawaiian Sweet Bread in a baking pan (we used a pizza pan) and brush with a combination of melted butter and minced garlic.
- Top with pulled-apart cheese slices and feta cheese crumbles.
- Pop in the oven for 15-20 minutes (or until the cheese has melted).
Easy as pie 😉
Family-Friendly Beverages
For our beverages, we chose a combination of sodas, bottled water, and sports drinks to cater to different taste buds. The paper football helmets and astroturf paper cups added a bit of game day flare to this “end zone” section of our party table, while the felt soda can cozies were a fun craft to make with the kids!
Game Day Party Decorations
The “sidelines” were filled with Hawaiian garlic cheese ball coaches yelling, “Score!”, “Win!”, “First Down”, and “Touchdown!”, and guess what–we’re sharing the text bubble cut files with you!
If you have a Cricut Machine, you can save time by uploading these to Cricut Design Space. You’ll find the download buttons for the free cut files at the bottom of this post.
We taped the text bubbles onto wooden food picks and used them as toppers for our Hawaiian garlic cheese balls!
We also shared the free cut file for the floating “The Countdown Begins” sign, in a previous post.
Lastly, we made these football helmet toppers using a cut file that we had purchased from Cricut Design Space. The textured gold foil paper (as well as the metallic silver paper) made for an interesting design. We used these as food toppers for the donut holes and the boys had a lot of fun moving the “football players” around on the wooden dessert board (it’s actually a repurposed cheese board).
When parents make exceptions to the rule: This is probably one of the few times that the kids are allowed to play with their food in our house!
We picked up our game day party food at Walmart: the photo below shows you the aisle where we found the Red Baron pizza and Edwards frozen pies.
