Blessed Sunday, our dear friends! It’s the start of another week, another month, another opportunity to receive God’s blessings and be a blessing to others! As I was praying to God, asking for which verse to share with you today, an index card hanging on our wall caught my attention. It was a Scripture reminder for my son about finding direction.
Make me to go in the path of thy commandments; for therein do I delight. Incline my heart unto thy testimonies, and not to covetousness. Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity; and quicken thou me in thy way.
Psalm 119:35-37 KJV
An index card on the wall? Yes. Actually, we have many index cards casually hanging on our wall. They may not be the most aesthetically pleasing, but they are the most spiritually filling. When we were kids, my mom used to write Scripture reminders on index cards and posted them in strategic places around the house. Somehow, it felt like she wrote more of them for me than for my older brother. When I was a teenager, she placed one on my bathroom mirror, and it said,
Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth theLord, she shall be praised.
Proverbs 31:30 KJV
Sometimes, she would place a Scripture reminder right by the door knob to remind us to stay out of trouble as we were headed out the door. Oh, she was on top of things, too, and she would rotate or “refresh” the reminders by making new ones so that our eyes wouldn’t get desensitized to seeing the same ones.
Recently, I started implementing this same idea at home, now that we have a teenager. By God’s grace, our kids seem to respond well to it, and they’ve started writing their own Scripture reminders on index cards! Our toddler even asked one of his big brothers to make one for him and put it over his bed so he will no longer be afraid at night.
The Word of God is powerful–even when simply written on an index card and hung on the wall.
We can always use reminders from God’s Word, and it certainly helps to have them posted around the house.
Application
As we seek to find direction to start this week off on the right foot, let’s turn to God’s Word, and remember:
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
Psalm 119:105 KJV
Take action: I encourage you to take a moment to start reading Psalm 119 KJV (even one “stanza” at a time) as you seek God’s guidance for the week. Grab a pen and write down the verses which God uses to speak to you. You may need them as a reminder later on. If you haven’t taken the first step in taking Him by the hand to lead you, this page shows you how.
