Cough… Ugh… Sometimes, we think those two words are synonymous, especially when the kids come back from school and bring the germs back with them. That was last week. Oh, and then you have that one child (there’s at least one, right?) who refuses to take his /her medicine without any extra “creative encouragement”. That’s when the parents get creative right back (we do our best). Before back-to-school season even started, we prepared many a DIY Superhero Finger Puppet Kit. Keep on reading to see how we entertain our sick children and how you too can clear cough from your schedule with Children’s Robitussin® (use as directed).
So, what’s the DIY Superhero Finger Puppet Kit made of?
Think of it as the whole package (more like, the whole tray). This small wooden tray carries the following:
- Children’s Robitussin®
- DIY Superhero Finger Puppet Kit (Red)
- DIY Superhero Finger Puppet Kit (Yellow)
- DIY Superhero Finger Puppet Kit (Blue)
We have the DIY Superhero Finger Puppet Kits in 3 different colors so that our child has something to look forward to when he takes his next dose of Children’s Robitussin® (use as directed).
Each kit has its own finger puppet color theme. In this case, our son chose the red one; he even added a cape (instead of wings) and made a Superhero Finger Puppet inspired by his favorite cartoon character. He said he was torn between making a mask or making angry eyebrows.
So, here’s how we assembled each DIY Superhero Finger Puppet Kit:
Step 1. To make the finger puppet base, create a circle pattern using any type of thick paper or card stock (we used a 2 1/4″ circle craft punch to create our paper pattern).
Step 2. Use a pencil to trace around the circle pattern onto the felt material (do this twice, you will need 2 circles).
Step 3. Cut out the 2 circle felt pieces using a pair of sharp scissors.
Step 4. Place the 2 circle felt pieces on top of each other, then start stitching the top, left, and right sides, by hand, like so…
Step 5. Trim off excess felt material on left and right side of circles, then flip it right side out.
Step 6. Place DIY finger puppet base inside themed container of choice.
Step 7. Fill container with other kid craft supplies and essentials like googly eyes, felt strips, mini felt squares, kid-safe scissors, and adhesive dots.
That’s it! The DIY Superhero Finger Puppet Kit is ready to be customized!!!
Using the crafting supplies inside the DIY Superhero Finger Puppet Kit, our son made his own rendition of a superhero by designing his favorite cartoon character and adding a blue cape. He used the scissors to shape the eyebrows, beak, cape, etc.
We purposely left the labels on the containers blank so our son could later write the superhero’s name on it. Sometimes, he writes his own name on it. With this particular child, it always depends…
We offered a little bit of assistance by adding the adhesive dots on each side (top corners) of the mini felt square. Our son happily took over to trim off the bottom of the cape.
If you scroll up, you’ll notice that he eventually changed his mind and went with the red cape, instead.
So, what’s been keeping your home busy lately with all the new routines that come with the new school season?
How do you proactively guard against the germs, illnesses, and discomforts that come with it?
Do you have also have a child who needs a little extra “creative encouragement” when he or she is sick?
When shopping for school supplies (and kids’ crafting supplies) at Walmart, we also like to stock up on Children’s Robitussin® (use as directed)… because who doesn’t want to be prepared when sickness strikes?

What a fun way to occupy a sick child! I love this idea and need to hit up Walmart to prepare – with three kids in preschool through 3rd grade, it’s only a matter of time before one of them starts to feel under the weather! #client
