Hello and thanks for stopping by! We’re glad you’re here to get to know us a little better!
- We’re a family of 6 living in sunny Florida
- We believe in God and enjoy sharing our devotions with you
- We highly value Internet Security for our readers as well as ourselves, which would explain the following:
- We don’t post photos of ourselves or our children (read our story of a hacked site)
- We spend considerably more on managed WordPress hosting (we currently use the Rainmaker platform) to ensure our site is secure
Crafts + Occasions
We love making crafts and sharing gift ideas as well as party ideas for various occasions, including the holidays! We continue to add to our library of personal die-cutting machine cut files and templates and believe it or not, Google Docs has helped us immensely in creating our free printables and digital artwork that you will find sprinkled throughout this blog. Check out some of the ways we get creative with Google Docs:
- How to make your own Cards
- How to make your own Gift Tags / Labels
- How to design your own Backgrounds
Food + Health
Each member of our family has very different dietary needs. We have someone with a sweet tooth and another with peanut, dairy, and shellfish allergies. Then there’s borderline pre-diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart burn. Do these conditions come from aging or from having children or both? 😉 That being said, we’ve lived through a pregnancy that came with gestational diabetes, pregnancy-induced hypertension, pre-eclampsia, and cluster headaches. While we’re happy to share our recipes with you, always remember to consult with your own healthcare provider re: your specific wellness and dietary needs.
Home + Tech
We’ve often debated on whether to create separate categories for “Home” and “Tech”. We’ve been using more and more tech around our house lately that we find it difficult to talk about one without taking about the other. When the power goes out and comes back on, we’re caught in a net of multiple beeping devices. Some of them beep alike. Some of them speak another language which we couldn’t understand. Some of them are difficult to keep up with–the more you harvest, the more herbs you get! Did we ever tell you that our neighbors might think that we’re using a chainsaw in the kitchen? It sounds like it and sure packs a nice punch like one.
Travel + Leisure
We love to travel as a family! Our favorite activities include going on road trips from coast to coast, exploring Hawaii, and traveling around Florida. On that note, we purchased a Florida State Parks Annual Pass! While it costs more than the America The Beautiful Annual Pass (as of the time of this post), both passes are totally worth it in our opinion! In case you’re wondering–yes, we have annual passes to Disney, Universal Studios, and the Kennedy Space Center. Unfortunately, our Morikami Museum Annual Pass expired this year (we hope to renew it soon). We also have an annual membership with a science center that’s part of the ASTC Passport Program, which gives us access to many other science centers around the country. Since we like to go on road trips so much, we also keep an E-Z pass (toll transponder) that we purchased from a AAA office in Fredericksburg, Virginia (we picked their office because it’s just off of Interstate 95).
Blogging
We started blogging @ altamontefamily.com in April 2015. In less than 3 months of blogging, we experienced several site hacks and brute force attempts. Feel free to follow our Blog Adventure, which includes our own horror story of a hacked site and our journey using the new Rainmaker platform, which is supposed to be a “complete website solution”. We signed up with them so we can accomplish more, blog more, and eliminate sleepless nights caused by security threats to our website. So far, so good–we signed up for their affiliate program in September 2015.
We really hope you’ll enjoy your visit while you’re here. Please don’t be shy to leave a comment if you have any questions, or feel free to use our contact form to Contact Us or shoot us a message at: altamontefamilyblog [at] gmail [dot] com
We’re always happy to hear from you!
Talk to you soon!
Blessings,
